Sketching the Runway

If I draw them will they be mine? A few of my (perpetually) favorite designers are Preen, Chanel, and Erdem. In recent years, I've been particularly obsessed with ladylike, classic silhouettes and the contrast of black with brightly-colored, graphic prints. "Animating Chanel" Video: Lipstick, Eyeshadow, and Robots, oh my!

It's no secret that I am in love with Peter Philips.  Each time the Global Creative Director of Makeup produces a new Chanel Beauty collection, I swoon more ardently than a teenage girl over Justin Bieber.  (The proof lies in my AmEx bill and stacks of Chanel boxes on my dresser.  More on this love affair later!)

Just in time to perk up your Friday doldrums, here is a fantastically-fun stop motion film produced by Mr. Philips and co:

Nail Lacquer of the Week

The Chic Report just recently published a glorious photo of a new shade of Chanel nail lacquer available December 1st. For those of you who did not get your hands on Nouvelle Vague (like me!), you'll want to make sure you act fast on December 1st so you don't miss out.  Check out the Chanel "Riva" nail lacquer, which the Chic Report describes as "pale blue."

Lacquerized says that Riva may be available only in Chanel fashion boutiques, but hints that it could be available at www.chanel.com as well.

Trend Spotting

We've been busy little squirrels this week storing up blog posts for the winter.  While we await the downloading of our Wednesday & Thursday Portland Fashion Week photos (alas! we're not attending Friday's show), here's a brief interlude on an entirely unrelated subject.

For work today I attended an all-day educator conference. I couldn't help but check out how the teachers had styled themselves.  My favorite fall trends on display were...

1. The Classic Chic Trench.

Trovata Fatale Waxed Cotton Trench, $418 at www.parallelportland.com.

2. The Utility Jacket.

.
Vince Utility Jacket, $395 at www.shopbop.com.

3. Leather Knee Boots.  We love Frye.

Frye Dorado Riding Boots (Dark Brown), $458 at www.shopbop.com.

4. Wellies. A must for rainy Portland weather!

Hunter Lady N Rainboot, $140 at www.parallelportland.com.

5. Nerdy Thick-Framed Glasses.

6. Scarves, naturally.  They're still going strong!

Bobi Supreme Jersey Scarf (Violet), $24 at www.parallelportland.com.

7. Moccasins.  I'm still totally feeling this trend (and Pendleton fabrics---more on that later).

Minnetonka Original Moccasins, $48 at www.urbanoutfitters.com.

8. Quirky local jewelry.  I love this necklace from Sword + Fern (we saw their installation at PFW Wednesday night).

Sword + Fern Mountains Necklace (recycled blue-hued glass), $72 at www.etsy.com/shop/swordandfern.

Plus, Calendar Reminders!

Online tickets are still available for the Saturday & Sunday Portland Fashion Week shows for you to enjoy.  On Sunday from 2pm-5pm, there is also a designer marketplace (open to the public)  where you can purchase clothing from designers featured at Portland Fashion Week.  Admission is free!   Located at 1039 NW Couch in the Pearl.

Also, make sure to mark your calendars for the October 11th launch of Nadinoo's fall collection online.  On October 13th, Club Monaco apparel will be for sale online at Shop Bop!

And, Nail Polish Odds & Ends!

A new limited edition Chanel Nail Colour Set featuring Rouge Noir, Coromandel, and Gold-Lamé, (Thanks for the heads up, refinery29!) is available online at www.chanel.com.

Chanel Nail Colour Set, $66 at www.chanel.com.

Color Focus: Coral Escape

Since weather in our fair city has been unseasonably dark and gloomy these past few weeks, (Summer, where are you?) my reaction has been to crave all things bright and sunny.  Coral has always been one of my go-to colors for a bright punctuation against neutrals such as white, khaki, black, and navy.  Often an integral shade used in resort collections, coral seems to make me feel more relaxed and optimistic when I wear it.

Here are some of my recent coral discoveries, both items I am currently wearing and enjoying, as well as things I am lusting after:

So, put away that AmEx and forget about expensive airfare.  If you’re craving a tropical escape, all you need is a mojito in one hand and one of these juicy items in your fashion and beauty wardrobes.
